Kathmandu Metropolitan City has formed a technical committee to measure ground coverage and floor area ratio for planned settlements in the Capital.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development will recommend a KMC technical committee for the measurement as per the Nepal National Building Code, 2007.

The Metropolis and MoFALD will employ one geo-technical engineer and three surveyors to assist the technical team. The project is aimed at uplifting planned settlement as well as urban development.

Rudra Singh Tamang, Chief Executive Officer at KMC, notified that the measurement will begin from September 18.

As per the project, houses within 260 square metres in residential areas have been allotted 70 per cent ground coverage while those with more than 260 square metres have been allocated 60 per cent ground coverage.

The houses must have 1.4 metres boundary walls and houses with walls above 1.4 metres will require installing three metres of iron net. Each house should have a sceptic tank.

The inner roads within the settlements should be wide enough for ambulances and fire brigades to ply. The alleys of the core city areas must be four metres wide in the new urban residential areas.

Main roadways along the plotting of the residential areas must be eight metres wide with electric poles, sewage, and pipelines.
