KMC removes illegal structures

Kathmandu, May 26

Kathmandu Metropolitan City today removed all the illegal structures built near Dharahara with the help of Nepal Police.

Executive committee of Kathmandu Metropolitan City had decided to remove such structures on May 25. “We issued 24-hour notice to remove structures built in the area,” said Mahesh Kumar Kafle, chief of Public Private collaboration Unit, KMC.

The notice issued by KMC had clearly stated that  it would not pay compensation for any kind of loss to the people running their business from those illegal structures. Some of the traders complained that they did not get enough time to shift their goods and belongings. Police, along with metropolitan staffers, removed all the structures immediately after the completion of 24 hours. “We acted as per the law,” said Kafle, adding, “KMC provided vehicles to the people who could not manage vehicles to shift their goods.”
