Koirala flying to US for treatment

Kathmandu, November 4

Nepali Congress President and Former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is leaving for a two-week visit to the United States on Friday.

During his visit, he is scheduled to undergo a follow up of his cancer treatment at New York-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he had treated his lung cancer in July 2014.

According to Koirala’s Foreign Relations Adviser Dinesh Bhattarai, Koirala will be accompanied by his aides, including Atul Koirala, Mridula Koirala, Bhattarai himself and security officer Mahendra Marasini.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Alaina Teplitz today called on President Koirala and appreciated his leadership towards the adoption of the new democratic constitution of Nepal.

The former PM, on his part, shared his confidence that the difficult political problems and difficulties in resumption of supplies would resolve soon, according to his aide Prakash Adhikari.

Meanwhile, the US Ambassador also called on Speaker Onsari Gharti at latter’s office in Singha Durbar and discussed how the issues raised by agitating Madhesi parties are being addressed in the new constitution through necessary amendments, according to a source.
