Kathmandu, October 31:

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today said he would construct the biggest Buddha statue in the capital after the culmination of the peace process.

Addressing the inauguration of the Golden Buddha statue at Shreegha Vihar, he said that the peace process is reaching the point of success and efforts are on from both sides to give a constructive turn to the talks.

“I am feeling that I will have the biggest Buddha statue of Nepal constructed at Tinkune of Kathmandu after accomplishment of the peace process as a peace memorial. It is a strong desire of mine,” he said, adding that he had tried it during his previous tenure but failed due to various circumstances.

“I’m confident that the peace will come if we all work hard with commitment and sincerity,” he added.

General-secretary of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the next round of peace talks may take place this week.

He also said that since both the government as well as the Maoists are working hard on doing homework, peace would come though the talks soon. “We are proud that a son of Nepal earns so much devotion worldwide. Our duty should be that the Buddha is adorned the most here in Nepal,” he added. The three-meter tall Golden Buddha, inaugurated by the prime minister today, cost Rs 3,200,000.
