Krishna Astami being observed across the nation

KATHMANDU: Krishna Astami is being observed across the nation with Hindu devotees thronging at various temples of Krishna on Saturday.

On the day of Krishna Astami, which is also known as Krishna Jayanti or Krishna Janmastami, devotees of Lord Krishna observe fasting, consuming only fruits and milk products.

On the occasion, a special religious ceremony is observed at Krishna Temple in Lalitpur.

According to legends, Lord Krishna was born in Dwapara Yuga on the 8th day of the waning moon of the month of Shrawana as a son of Vasudeva and Devaki of Mathura.

He is taken as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

President Yadav visits Krishna Mandir

Meanwhile, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav visited the Krishna Mandir in Lalitpur this morning and received Prasad.

A large number of Hindu devotees have gathered at the Krishna Mandir since early morning today to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna.
