Labour Minister leaves for Geneva

KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista, today left for Switzerland to participate in the 109th session of the International Labour Conference.

Minister Bista left with the Nepali delegation to the conference this morning. He will be addressing the plenary session on June 4. He will also be addressing the ministerial meetings to be held separately among non proliferation countries and Asia Pacific nations on June 5.

Ministry's Joint Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire, who is part of the entourage said, on June 5 Minister Bista will take part in a luncheon and interaction with Colombo Process Countries' ministers and representatives.

Ghimire added that Nepal will be broaching the issues of migrant workers' security, foreign employment discipline and management while seeking increased productivity of the workers by establishing good labour relations and by upholding workers' interest and welfare.

Likewise, Nepal will prioritise topics related to increasing opportunities for internal employment, enhancing coordinated cooperation among the stakeholders, and achieving sustainable growth.

Nepal will also be holding separate ministerial and secretariat level meetings with the ministers and high level officials of migrant workers' destination countries as well as director general of the International Labour Organization (ILO) among other top officials.
