Lalitpur, June 18:
Children of 15 wards in the Lalitpur sub- Metropolitan City (LMC) are involved in social service.
Under programmes supported by LMC’s Community Development branch, children are encouraged to participate in various community development programmes. Though small, these programmes are expected to raise awareness and make children enthusiastic about actively participating in community development programmes. Participating in an interaction programme today, kids from various children’s groups talked about the difficulties faced and shared their views on various recreational activities and cleanliness campaigns organised by them. “It is a way for us to learn. We face different kinds of difficulties when we organise programmes, and we try to solve them using our knowledge and skills,” said Rajesh Sharma from Prayag Pokhari, a representative from the Tongole children’s group. Initiated in 2050 BS with support from GTZ, there are 25 such children’s groups in LMC and more than 300 children are actively involved in them. Children highlighted problems regarding low financial support, lack of technical know-how and leadership problems faced by their groups. “LMC provides us with financial aid to organise our programmes. For additional fund, we try to increase our membership,” Sharma said. “Such programmes help children develop their personality and encourage them to participate in community development programmes,” said Sabina Maharjan of LMC’s Community Development section. Fifty-seven members of the children’s groups who cleared the SLC exams this year were also felicitated today.
