Lalitpur declared fully immunised

Kathmandu, April 28

Lalitpur district was declared fully immunised against vaccine-preventable diseases today, a step ahead in the government’s objective to achieve and maintain at least 90 per cent vaccination coverage at national and district levels.

Chief of the District Public Health Office Lalitpur Jhalak Sharma Paudel informed that Lalitpur is the 26th district to be declared fully immunised. He informed that the office had started the immunisation campaign a year ago.

Paudel said, “The campaign does not end by declaring the district fully immunised. We need to maintain the level of immunisation and cultivate the habit of vaccinating children.”

Paudel informed that the campaign had reached 40,839 children in the district. As per records, there are 35,878 children in Lalitpur district between one and five years of age, and 40,839 children between six and 59 months.

Palpa was the first district to be declared fully immunised in country, though the campaign had first begun from Bhageswori VDC of Achham.

Paudel said the DPHO had also begun a campaign to control the spread of communicable diseases in the district.

“We want to reach all rural municipalities and VDCs in the district to ensure that children are not exposed to communicable diseases, not only in their homes but also in public places,” he said.
