Late Ganesh Man Singh’s birth anniversary marked

KATHMANDU: The birth anniversary of late Ganesh Man Singh was marked in the capital city this morning.

The Ganesh Man Singh Foundation organised a programme at Shova Bhagawati, commemorating the 104th birth anniversary of the late leader, who was the commander of the 1990 democratic movement.

Rich tributes were paid to Singh who is also known as the ‘Iron Man’ of Nepali politics for his audacious struggle to overthrow the Rana and Panchayat rules.

Addressing the programme, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh said the late leader has played a significant role in the movement for democracy in Nepal. He recalled his father, the late leader Singh, as a dedicated fighter for democracy steadfast in his principles.

Commenting on the present state of affairs of Nepali Congress, leader Singh said the party president was not functioning as per the party statute. He accused the party president of disregarding party’s constitution, adding that he would continue his struggle for reforming the party.

Party’s central committee member Dila Sangraula, party’s Kathmandu district committee president Sabuj Baniya, lawmakers from the party, along with presidents and office-bearers of party's various sister organisations were present on the occasion.

Born on Kartik 24, 1972 BS, leader Ganesh Man Singh had passed away on Asoj 2, 2054 BS. He was jailed for long time by the then regimes for his involvement in the movement for establishing democracy in the country.
