Lawmaker Rai in trouble for threatening doctor

KATHMANDU: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) today submitted a memorandum to Constitutional Assembly chairman Subas Chandra Nembang and Rastriya Prajatantra Party president Surya Bahadur Thapa, urging them to take action against CA member Arjun Rai, who was involved in threatening a doctor.

Dr Kedar Narsingh KC, NMA chairperson, said they had been demoralised by the lawmaker’s act of threatening Dr Upendra Devkota of National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences in Bansbari. Rai manhandled Devkota and threatened to set the hospital on fire following the death of Shiva Ram Rai on December 1.

He said medical practitioners had been shocked by the act of such a responsible person in the country. He demanded the doctors’ personal and professional security.

According to KC, the CA chair has assured to take action against Rai and raise voice for the professional security of medical personnel. Thapa also gave his word to take action against the CA member of his party.

The NMA provided Rs 10,000 for the treatment of the injured Rukum-based scribe Tika Bista.
