Lawmakers slam government for sluggish development works

Kathmandu, January 23

Parliamentarians speaking at zero hour of today’s parliamentary meeting drew the attention of the government to various issues related to their respective constituencies, districts and national issues, mostly concerns about the delay in development works.

Shiva Chandra Chaudhary voiced his concern that the construction of Terminal Tower in Janakpur Airport had not progressed although the construction of Tribhuvan International Airport’s terminal tower that started at the same time as the one in Janakpur Airport was completed some years ago.

Similarly, Shree Maya Thakali demanded stern action against the culprit in the case of Anisha Khati of Nepalgunj. She bemoaned that cases of violence against women were rising in a country where women were assuming pivotal positions in many sectors including presidency, judiciary, and parliament. Likewise, Hari Prasad Nepal spoke of the need for political parties to issue directives to their parliamentarians to endorse the bill related to the election at the earliest so that the dates of the long overdue elections could be declared.

Hari Bahadur Rajbanshi drew the attention of the House towards the yet-to-be built bridges over Bighi, Kankai and Kamala rivers under the Postal Highway and the washing away of arable land due to lack of construction of embankments in those rivers.
