Lawmakers unite for cause

KATHMANDU: CA members representing Newar community today expressed their commitment in preserving the social, cultural, economic as well as political identity of the indigenous people. The lawmakers numbering some 22 also pledged to fight discrimination facing the Newar community.

They also demanded Kathmandu Valley as Newar Autonomous State and said the ethnic people should have right over the use of natural resources in their area. Lawmaker Sapana Pradhan Malla and Maoist lawmaker Hisila Yami vowed to fight for the Newar autonomous state.
