Lawyer arrested for swindling Jhapa woman

KATHMANDU: Police arrested a legal practitioner on charge of swindling a woman assuring her victory over a sub-judice case, from Babarmahal of Kathmandu on Thursday.

Krishna Kumari Dhakal (35) of Jhapa, currently residing at KMC-4 had filed an application at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, against the lawyer Sanjaya Raj Adhikari after realising that she was cheated by Adhikari after the Patan Appellate court made a decision against her.

Earlier, Dhakal had paid Rs 125,000 to Adhikari after he had promised her win in the case.

Police said the 45-year-old Adhikari is a permanent resident of Kathchaur VDC-6 in Ramechhap district, currently residing in Kapan in the Capital. He runs the Defence Law Form.

Police also seized a cash payment receipt of a money transfer company along with a CD recording in which he had assured the victim of the win and demanded Rs 500,000 for winning the case.

Meanwhile, police have learned that Adhikari had also swindled a Terhathum man, who was searching a land plot to acquire, by showing a land which he did not have any right over.

Police said Adhikari has been sent to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range for further investigation.
