Linguistic symposium

Kathmandu, November 26:

The 12th Himalayan Languages Symposium began here today. Hundreds of linguists from different countries have gathered to discuss on the status of various languages spoken Nepal and her neighbouring countries.

Altogether 81 papers dealing with various aspects of Himalayan languages are going to be presented in the 30day symposium. Chairman of LSN Prof Jaya Raj Awasthi said merely allowing the communities to run primary education in their own local languages does not solve the problems of the linguistic minorities in the heterogeneous Nepali communities.
