Local bodies’ employees join hands

Kathmandu, January 22:

A national-level employee association of local bodies, municipalities, village development committees and district development committees was formed today.

According to the organisers, the new committee (formed because bodies lack any elected local representatives) intends to run according to the Trade Union Law.

Minister for Local Development, Yubraj Gyawali, urged the committee to go ahead with constructive vision and welfare of the staffers. CPN-UML central committee member Rajendra Shrestha pointed out that employees of local bodies are facing tough times as the government has not made a decision to nominate any one or to hold elections.

General secretary of Professionals Federation Nepal (PFN), Pramod Sharma, urged the new body get a PFN affiliation.
