Kathmandu, January 5:

The lock-out carried out by the student bodies at the Central Department of English of the Tribhuvan University was lifted today after the TU administration agreed to admit all interested students who have passed the entrance examination for MA English and set the admission fee at Rs 5,000.

The student bodies had locked out the department since December 26 when the department issued a notice saying that only 200 would be admitted for MA English and the admission fee would be Rs 7,000. Besides, the department had said it would not entertain the students with third division marks in their bachelor’s degree.

A total of 1,100 students had appeared in the entrance examination for MA English and after the agreement around 700 students are expected to get admission for the same this year.

Pranay Singh ‘Munna’, president of the Nepal Students’ Union’s university campus unit, said the students could get admitted from tomorrow as both the parties have agreed to go ahead with the admission procedure.

Meanwhile, the lock-out at the Department of Sociology is continuing since Dec 13. The students have locked the department demanding an increase in the number of intakes for MA Sociology. The department has fixed 200 intakes for the same.
