KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday appointed Lok Bahadur Thapa as Nepal's Ambassador to Belgium.

Earlier, the Council of Ministers had recommended Thapa for the ambassadorship in the European nation while the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had also endorsed his name among eight career diplomats.

The President subsequently made the appointment following the recommendation and the approval as per the Article 282.1 of the Constitution of Nepal, the President's Office said in a statement today.

Thapa was working as the Director General at the Department of Passport under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
