LPG distribution resumes in valley
Kathmandu, February 23:
Many people of the Kathmandu Valley heaved a sigh of relief today as the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) resumed in the valley following a hiatus of over two weeks.
According to the LP Gas Industries’ Association, around 80,000 LPG-filled cylinders were brought to the valley in two days and retail distribution began today. The supply is expected to last for two more days. People were seen lining up around gas depots from early in the morning to fetch LPG.
Krishna Bahadur Thapa of Maitidevi said after getting a gas-filled cylinder that he will no longer have to depend on firewood to cook food. However, many people returned home empty-handed.
Proprietor of the Sai Ram Gas Suppliers said it had over empty 1,000 cylinders lined up. We distributed 50 cylinders today, the proprietor said.
Gyaneshwor Aryal, general secretary of the Gas Dealers’ Association of Nepal, said daily LPG
demand in the valley stands at 85,000 cylinders in the valley.
“Although the supply of LPG has resumed in a few places, the situation in many places became tense when people did not get gas,” Aryal added.
Sanwar Mal Agrawal, president of LP Gas Industries Association, said there is no need for the consumers to worry as 40 more tankers filled with LPG are on their way to the valley. “It seems we will be able to import LPG without hindrances as the government has put adequate security measures in place,” he said, calling on the consumers not to lose patience.
Many people keep stocks of four to five LPG-filled cylinders, he said, calling on people to give up this habit and help others in need.
