KATHMANDU: Senior leader of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Madhav Nepal has been appointed the party chair by the central committee meeting convened by Nepal and co-chair of the party Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The same gathering decided to remove Oli from the post and appoint Nepal in his stead.

Party co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had called another central committee meeting earlier today. The meeting had formed 1199-member committee to organise the general convention of the party, the date for which has been scheduled for November 18.

The Election Commission was notified of the decision by Oli-led group.

Meanwhile, the other meeting summoned by Nepal-Dahal decided on former PM Nepal's name as party chair stating that the other side is just a fringe group.
