'One-sided lover' gets life term for Ritu Mahaseth's cold-blooded murder

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court on Sunday convicted Bimalesh Prasad Yadav of the cold-blooded murder of Ritu Mahaseth, a BBA first year student, and sentenced him to life in prison with confiscation of all property.

Mahaseth (20) was hacked to death by Yadav at Dhobi Khola Corridor, Maitidevi on December 6 last year.

A bench of Judge Kul Prasad Sharma delivered the sentence as per the Homicide Chapter of the Muluki Ain, Shri Prasad Sanjel, the court registrar, told THT Online.

Yadav (27) of Tulasiyahi Jabdi-4, Dhanusha was arrested on Deceber 11 five days after the broad daylight murder from Balaju of Kathmandu.

Yadav had confessed of killing Maheseth after failing to convince her for a relationship. Earlier, he had worked as a driver for Mahaseth's family, and fallen in love with Mahaseth one-sidedly.

He reportedly resorted to the attack of vengeance after Mahaseth did not accept his proposal, citing his class and caste were not on a par of hers.

With a friend, she was heading to take part in a marriage ceremony from her hostel when Yadav fatally stabbed her. He had wounded himself also during the attack.

Seriously injured in the attack, the woman had succumbed to multiple knife-injuries at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital during treatment on the same day.
