Mahashivaratri, Army Day celebrated
KATHMANDU: Nepali Army (NA) officials and soldiers donning ceremonial dress braved the chill to mark Mahashivaratri and the Army Day, 2066 in Kathmandu today.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, chief guest of the ceremony, conferred Nishan to Shree No1 Rajdal Battalion and Shree No 2 Rajdal Battalion each followed by Mahashivaratri celebration and gun salute.
The NA soldiers, officials and the battalions that were decorated with Nishan performed drills and march past.
The highlights of the parade on the occassion included display of arms and ammunition, dog show, free-fall jump, recovery vans used for construction works, environment protection and wildlife reserves, cultural pageants, rescue operation and concerts among others.
Meanwhile, ‘Sipahi Barsik’, the yearly magazine of the Nepali Army, was also released on the occassion. Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung decorated 16 officers who were promoted to Captain with insignias amidst the function.
The Army Day celebration was graced by Vice President Paramananda Jha, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, ministers, head of constitutional bodies, ex-officials of the Nepali Army, senior government officials, diplomats fromt he head of diplomatic missions, representatives of security agencies and the general public attended the ceremony.
President lauds Nepali Army
KATHMANDU: Issuing a message on the occasion of Army Day, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Friday appreciated the role played by the Nepali Army with strong sense of responsibilities at different periods of history.
President Yadav said, “NA is continuously performing each and every task entrusted by the government, such as protecting the national liberty, sovereignty and the security of the citizens in an effective and efficient way.”
He further added that
NA personnel are exhibiting high discipline, loyalty and bravery while undertaking the tasks entrusted to them.
President Yadav further added, “Due to their impartiality and efficiency, NA has played a great role in maintaining international peace.”
