Man arrested for passport fraud

Kathmandu, December 22

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police nabbed a person who allegedly helped his clients obtain passports by producing fake documents.

Superintendent of Police Uttam Raj Subedi said the accused identified as Ratna Prasad Parajuli (39) was apprehended from Sinamangal last week.

A special operation was launched to track down Parajuli, a permanent resident of Taukhal-9, Kavre after the law enforcement agency found his involvement in the forgery racket.

According to the CIB, Parajuli obtained Machine Readable Passport for his clients by producing fake documents. He would charge his clients thousands of rupees for passport.

Officials said they were looking for Parajuli after Uttam Gurung (49) of Mustang district, currently residing in Nagarjun Municipality-2, Kathmandu, was arrested for possessing fake passport. Gurung was arrested from Maharajgunj after he produced his passport, which contained fake details of him, at the US Embassy.

The Kathmandu District Court had ordered his release on Rs 60,000 bail later.

Gurung told the police that Parajuli had obtained him the MRP by producing documents of a man by name of Kalsang Tsering.

Though the MRP (08756904) issued on May 5, 2015 sported Gurung’s photo, it had the name and details of Tsering. Fake citizenship certificate of Tsering was found to have submitted to the DoP for this purpose.
