Man swindles duo with fake French visa offer

KATHMANDU: A man has been arrested on charge of defrauding two persons of Rs 950,000 assuring them family visas of France.

Prabesh Rai (38) from Aahale-2 of Dhankuta district was nabbed from his rented room in Thali of the Capital.

Rai convinced Santoshi Subba, one of his Facebook friends, to give him Rs 950,000 claiming that he would provide visas for France to the woman and her brother Manit Lambu.

Rai had presented himself as a permanent residency holder of the European nation.

After Rai went out of contact, the duo had filed a complaint against him with police.

Following the complaint, a team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) was looking into the case.

The team also confiscated passports of the victims and Rs 250,000 cash from Rai's rented room in Thali.

Preliminary police investigations suggested that the suspect was involved in defrauding many people in the name of foreign employment earlier also.

The suspect has been sent to Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigations and actions.
