Maoist inmates continue strikes
Kathmandu, May 16:
Maoist inmates have continued their hunger strikes in different jails accross the nation. Three Maoist inmates of Sadarkhor Jail at Dilli Bazar, Kathmandu, are on hunger strike since yesterday.
Vice-president of the Madhesi Mukti Morcha Satya Narayan Bhagat is leading the strike in which Uttam Adhikary, Tikaram B K and Som Maya Tamang are participating.
Deepak Devkota, a prisoner of conscience, said they would intensify their strikes if the government did not meet their demands.
Bhanubhakta Acharya and Rajan Poudel of Central jail, Bharat Shah and Devi Prasad Dhakal of Bhadragole Jail, Parbati Thapa, Ruku Chaulagain and Sanu Maya Waiba of Bhadra Mahila Bandi Griha are on hunger strike.
Meanwhile, president of the ANNISU-R Lekhnath Neupane, president of All Nepal Trade Union Federation Shalikram Jamarkattel and treasurer of All Nepal Women’s Association -Revolutionary Ganga Adhikary today met the prisoners of conscience at different jails in the Valley.
Some 16 leaders of three sister organisations of the CPN-Maoist and few other journalists met prisoners of conscience at Central, Bhadragole, Bhadra Mahila Bandi Griha and Nakkhu Jails today.
After meeting the inmates ANNISU-R treasurer Yubaraj Chaulagain said health of the inmates at Nakkhu jail is deteriorating.
Former ANNISU-R general secretary Himal Sharma, former vice-president Krishna KC, Prakash Gautam, Tej Narayan Sapkota and Ganesh Regmi are on a hunger strike at the Nakkhu.
Call it off: Prachanda
KATHMANDU: Maoist supremo Prachnada on Tuesday made an appeal to the Maoist cadres who are in jail to call off their hunger strike. He also appealed to the government to take necessary steps to release the Maoist prisoners. — HNS
