Maoist victims lock NHRC office

Kathmandu, December 15:

Activists of the Maoist Victims’ Association and Joint Struggle Committee today locked the main gate of the National Human Rights Committee office, demanding action against the Maoists guilty of forced disappearances, killing and abduction.

Up to 25 activists locked the main gate the NHRC office in Harihar Bhawan, Pulchowk, for 45 minutes. “They agreed to remove the lock after NHRC officials agreed to hold talks with the protesters,” said NHRC commissioner Gauri Pradhan.

The activists also submitted a 15-point memorandum demanding action against the guilty Maoists.

“They said NHRC should effectively protect the human rights,” Pradhan added.
