Maoists come to diarrhoea-hit’s aid

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the UCPN Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Monday said his party was has started collecting donation to help people affected in the diarrhoea-hit districts.

“We cannot expect anything worthwhile from this government, therefore we have begun helping the diarrhoea hit people in the western districts,” Dahal said, inaugurating a donation campaign launched today by Newa State Committee of the party.

Prachanda alleged that

the government had become ineffective in tackling

diarrhoea and its days are numbered.

“A national unity government will soon replace this government,” he said, adding that his party does not believe in parliamentary system.

Dahal held the government responsible for the death of more than 500 people who he said have succumbed to diarrhoea. “It is shameful that people are dying of diarrhoea.”

Dahal also claimed, “the government’s apathy and indifference stems from the fact that we (Maoists)

had our bases in those those districts during the people’s war.”

Meanwhile, business communities during the function, donated 131 quintal of rice and medicines worth Rs 200,000 to the affected population.

Convener of the Integrated Public Health Campaign of the UCPN Maoist Giriraj Mani Pokhrel said the donation drive would continue for the next five days. The IPHC has already send Rs 1.9 million to the diarrhoea hit districts, he added.
