Martyrs’ park to come up in Gokarna
Kathmandu, January 25:
The government is all set to develop a memorial park in Gokarna-1 in Kathmandu district in the memory of martyrs.
Trilochan Poudel, general secretary of Work Performance Committee of Park Construction Task force, said the park is being developed as per the cabinet decision of May 25, 2007.
“There will be three different parks — Martyrs Park, Civil Service Park and a memorial in remembrance of 24 national and international environmentalists who died in a chopper crash in Ghunsa of Taplejung district,” he said, adding that the park will be spread over 629 ropanis of land in Yagyadol Community Forest.
“The foundation stone will be laid by Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on January 29, coinciding with the Martyrs’ Day,” he said.
A team of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and District Development Committee, Kathmandu, has already prepared a master plan for
the park and Rs 1.5 million has been allocated for the purpose by the cabinet.
The Ministry of Local Development, through Kathmandu DDC, has already
provided Rs 1.8 million for the management of the office for park construction.
The park will be constructed within two years as per the instruction issued by the Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma, according to Poudel.
The government has already committed to provide Rs 305 million for the construction.
