Media’s role in controlling bird flu stressed

Kathmandu, March 15:

Health journalists and editors of several Nepali media organisations today complained about the communication gap between the government officials and reporters on the issue of bird flu. The orientation, organised by AI.com and Thompson-Nepal, urged the government to provide correct information to the media about the virus and how it was transmitted.

They also emphasised the need to create awareness among people in order to prevent the flu. “Although many countries, including Nepal, have managed to bring avian influenza under control, virus is there and is still a fatal threat,” said Beth S Paige, mission director of USAID/Nepal.
