Mediapersons security plan implemented

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have implemented Special Security Plan for mediapersons and entrepreneurs on the direction of Chief District Office, Kathmandu.

This SSP has been especially prepared keeping in view the threats, pressure and difficulties mediapersons and entrepreneurs had been facing of late, with rise in the number of murders, shootouts, threats and cases of extortion against mediapersons and industrialists. CDO Laxmi Dhakal told The Himalayan Times today that the plan was prepared after consulting Nepal Police and was implemented on March 12.

Police personnel will probe and help reduce the difficulties mediapersons had been facing. They will also help the police find out who all were under threat, as people rarely complained, said Dhakal.

The plan will ensure full security to those under threat. “We’ll keep a vigil on people they often meet inside and outside their house and office. Threats from emails, letters and mobile phones will be recorded,” said Dhakal. “We have selected five DSPs as incharge of five circles: Dipak Thapa, Govinda Ram Pariyar, Ganesh Bahadur Yera, Bhola B Rawal and Dibesh Lohani. They will be in regular contact with mediapersons and entrepreneurs under their jurisdiction,” said Dhakal. They will discuss the work plan with those under threat and submit details to the CDO, he said.
