Kathmandu, May 1:

Though Nepal introduced the Child Labour Act in 1999, there is a long way to go for its effective implementation, experts said at a meet on Child Labour Act 1999 today.

Dr Fanindra Ranjan Baral, child specialist, said though the law was introduced in 1999, there is a long way to go to get it implemented. “It cannot be implemented unless the democratic process is reinstated,” he said. Before signing any international conventions and laws, a lot of homework has to be done in the local context, he said. He added that there is nobody to take responsibility of child labourers working in hotels and restaurants.
