Merger of ANNFSU (U) with ANNISU-R on the cards

Kathmandu, July 31:

A two-day gathering of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union(Unified) concluded today, deciding to initiate the process of its merger with the CPN (Maoist)-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary.

A majority of central members of the ANNFSU (U) were in favour of merger with the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary. It may be noted that the CPN-U was unified with the CPN-Maoist on July 10.

“We are holding talks with the ANNISU-R and would merge with it within 10 days,” said convener of the ANNFSU (U) Bijay Hamal after the gathering.

The gathering also decided to intensify the process to bring together all left-aligned students to accomplish goals of the student movement.

However, factions of the ANNFSU (U) led by Bhim Rai and Jeevan Gautam are yet to decide on the merger, Hamal said.

The gathering has formed a 19-member central coordination committee of ANNFSU (U) under the leadership of Hamal.

Members of the committee are: Guman Singh Khatri, Uttam Rijal, Narayan Prasad Chapagain, Arjun Prakash Bhusal, Rajesh Lama, Tikaram Acharya, Ashok Devkota, Geeta Bhusal, Janaki Subedi, Amrita Kunwar, Surendra Lama, Kabi Chepang, Sanjay Poudel, Surya Prasad Bagale, Gopal KC, Bechan Yadav, Toran Lama and Bijayawati Rai.
