MJF chief urges for new govt

KATHMANDU: Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) Chairman Upendra Yadav today urged Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to step down and pave the way for the formation of a national unity government, which he said, would ultimately help draft the constitution on time.

“The highest-level of political understanding among the parties is indispensable to write the constitution and take the peace process to a logical end,” Yadav said at a press conference held at his parliamentary party office, Singha Durbar.

He said the incumbent government has put peace and constitution-drafting processes on the backburner.

“The major parties did not focus on constitution drafting when there was enough time. Now when time is running out, they are mulling extension of Constituent Assembly term,” he said.

Yadav warned that people would take to

the streets if the Constituent Assembly term is extended.

“Only the reactionary and regressive forces will benefit if we fail to meet the May 28 deadline.”
