MJF holds back support

KATHMANDU: Two Madhes-based parties Terai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) and Nepal Sadbhawana Party on Thursday decided to lend their support to the new government to be formed under UML leadership while Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MjF) still remained divided over joining the new government.

During the meeting held at the residence of Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala, TMDP and Sadbhawana party agreed to join the signature campaign of UML while MjF failed to show up citing the dire need of internal parleys.

MJF plays the key role in forming the new government since it has 53 seats in the Constitutional Assembly. The fate of the next government will only be decided after MjF comes up with a solid decision after the Central Committee meeting which is underway at the party office in Sankhamul.

United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), the alliance of Madhes-based parties, has made it clear that they would give their support only if they are assured of the implementation of the eight-point agreement inked with the then government.

All five parties Nepali Congress, United Marxist-Leninist, Sadbhawana Party, TMDP and MJF are slated to meet on Thursday evening to come up with the final decision.
