LALITPUR: Only 19 per cent of the total budget allocated to the Ministry of Local Development for the current fiscal year has been spent in the last nine months.

According to the MoLD, a total of Rs 25.3 billion was allocated for the current fiscal year. Out of it only Rs 2.01 billion have been spent on capital expenditure and Rs 2.76 billion on regular expenses.

“The implementation of the programmes was badly affected due to the absence of elected representatives in

the local bodies,” said Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, spokesperson for the MoLD. “We are trying to coordinate with the locals,” he added.

In the last nine months, 18 directives were issued, 36 projects on the central and regional levels, and 118 projects on local level were launched, reads the ministry report.”During this period, Rs 1.23 billion under Indian assistance was offered to 44 projects in the DDCs and municipalities,” it adds.
