Mukherjee iterates poll help

Kathmandu, July 31:

Indian Ambassador Shiv Shanker Mukherjee today reiterated his government’s cooperation in holding the constituent assembly elections and resolving the Tarai crisis through dialogue.

In a meeting with Speaker Subash Nemwang, Mukherjee said India “wishes for stability and lasting peace” in Nepal that will be possible after the constituent assembly polls. “We believe that the Nepali people are capable of deciding their fate through the CA polls,” Mukherjee told Nemwang.

Talking to journalists in his chamber at the parliament, Nemwang quoted Mukherjee as saying that India, as a good friend of Nepal, wants the Tarai crises resolved through talks.

According to Nemwang, Mukherjee told him that India, too, was facing the flood problem. The envoy told Nemwang that India had not witnessed such flood in the last 30 years. Mukherjee raised the issue of floods after Nemwang drew his attention on the voices being raised by MPs on the barrages on the Indian side of the border.
