KATHMANDU, MAY 19

Voting will take place for the vacant post of member of National Assembly from Bagmati Province from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm tomorrow.

All preparations related to election security, health safety protocols and other managerial aspects have been completed in connection with conducting the by-election in a free, fair, credible and dignified manner, Election Commission Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha said.

There are 348 voters, including 110 members of the Bagmati Province Assembly and 238 local representatives comprising the chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities under the province.

The EC said it was committed to making the by-election free and fair. The election is taking place as per the first-past-the post election system through the electoral college.

The EC has urged all the electors to participate in voting.

The 'silence period' as per the election code-of-conduct is already in force since midnight of May 17. No electioneering and canvassing is allowed during the silent period.

Meanwhile, the District COV- ID-19 Crisis Management Centre, Makawanpur, said that arrangements have been made for accommodation and voting in line with health safety protocols. Voting is taking place at the three polling booths set up at Bhutandevi Secondary School at Hetauda Municipality, Makawanpur.

Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa from the ruling CPN-UML and Khimlal Devkota from the opposition alliance are contesting in the by-election.
