NC CC members against joining govt
KATHMANDU: Central Committee members of the Nepali Congress (NC) on Friday suggested their party leaders not to join the CPN-UML-led government.
During the Central Committee (CC) meeting held today to decide on NC's participation in the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government, five out of six leaders urged the party not to join the government. The meeting was postponed until tomorrow.
They said that the decision on whether or not to join the government should be decided by the central committee or the parliamentary party and not only by the top leaders.
Govinda Raj Joshi, Chakra Prasad Bastola, Narahari Acharya, Dip Kumar Upadhaya and Chirinjivi Wagle were against the NC joining the government. Meanwhile, Bhisma Raj Angdambe argued that the NC should join the government.
General Secretary KB Gurung presented formal agendas of the CC meeting.
The agenda included whether or not to join the government, preparing common minimum programme of the government, claiming ministry portfolios and who to send in the new government.
"The decision should be taken only through the CC meeting or the parliamentary party meeting. The trend of only senior leaders taking important decisions of the party should end now," said central member Joshi.
Chakra Prasad Bastola said, "We should not join the government as NC is the second largest party while the UML comes in third. Instead, the NC should support the government strongly from the outside."
Most of the NC leaders are of the opinion that NC will join the government.
