NC CC to take a call on AM
KATHMANDU: The ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) today took decision on the calendar for issuing Active Membership(AM) to the party activists and holding general conventions at local levels.
The CC will probably endorse the decision tomorrow after general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi presents the proposal pertaining to the same by incorporating the suggestions of CC members, according to party sources.
The CC members have proposed to conclude the conventions of working committees in all local levels by January 29, 2010, informed CC member Purna Bahadur Khadka. The party has already announced its 12th National General Convention (NGC) from March 10 to 14, 2010, in Kathmandu.
During today’s meeting, NC ministers clarified the CC that they could not participate in the function of administering oath of office and secrecy to new ministers on Wednesday as some of them were engaged in the CC meeting while others were out of the Valley. The NC ministers were criticised for not participating in the function saying it was their “deliberate absence”.
A speculation is rife among the NA cadres and leaders that the ongoing CC meeting was continued at a snail’s pace as the plan of the leadership to cancel the meeting of
Mahasamiti members scheduled for three days beginning October 31 in Birgunj.
CC member Govinda Raj Joshi said, “The party’s leadership seems to be lingering on taking decision on the key agendas of NGC so that the Mahasamiti meeting would be called off and the NGC would be postponed again.” According to him, the leadership does not want to face Mahasamiti meeting as it would expose the leadership’s weaknesses well before the NGC.
NC president Girija Prasad Koirala yesterday had suggested party office bearers not to hold the Mahasamiti meeting. “The meeting will be costly and unnecessary just before the party’s NGC,” Koirala had told the office bearers. The CC meeting , on August 29, had decided to hold the Mahasamiti meeting to finalise a host of issues.
