NC lawmaker Karna assaulted

KATHMANDU, July 14

A group of unidentified people today attacked Ranjit Karna, president of Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Students Union and a Constituent Assembly member from the NC, at his residence in Handigaun.

Karna has suspected involvement of NSU members in the attack.

“Some disgruntled members from our union attacked me,” said Karna at a press meet he had called after the incident, urging authorities to do the needful to immediately identify and arrest those involved.

NSU Spokesperson UP Lamichhane said that some cadres from ‘our own organisation were involved into the assault’.

“They must face action,” he said. Condemning the attack, Lamichhane said, “If they had any problem over any issue, they should have talked to him (Karna) to sort them out instead of attacking him. Such act is hooliganism in the name of student politics.”

According to Lamichhane, Kanra has lodged a complaint with police and some of the members involved in the attack have been arrested.
