NEFIN backs Constitution amendment bill

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) on Thursday informed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that the indigenous communities would support the Constitution amendment bill recently tabled at the Parliament.

The Federation of organisations representing various ethnic groups had reached to the PM to inform him of the support this afternoon.

Speaking at the meeting, the ethnic leaders said the amendment bill had incorporated their sentiments. They, therefore, requested him to ensure its endorsement.

Meanwhile, NEFIN also demanded that various agreements signed with various communities in the past should be implemented.

In response, the Prime Minister said concerns of indigenous communities would be addressed considering the political power balance, according to a statement issued by the PM's Secretariat.

The Federal Commission would also address a majority of their concerns, he assured.
