Nembang opens astrologers’ meet
Kathmandu, April 2:
The International Astrological Conference that began here today demanded recognition of astrology as a profession. The conference will also outline common principles of international astrology.
Inaugurating the conference, Speaker of the Legislature Parliament Subas Nembang, said, “Astrology is being glamourous and is capturing the youth’s interest, as such, the education system should be flexible enough to meet their demands.” He also stressed on the need for a scientific education system.
Laxmi Prasad Baral, the spokesperson of Astro-Council, Nepal (ACN), presented a concept paper that highlighted the need for developing astrology as more scientific and relevant subject.
Astrologer Madhav Bhattarai, president of Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, said: “Whatever is done in the field of astrology is done in an individual level and this is a shame for the government. The government must take astrology seriously.”
He also opposed rapid commercialisation of astrology.
“Horoscopes and future predictions have become a fashion these days. Media are using astrologers and their predictions are not uniform. Furthermore, some five star hotels have employed astrologers to attract customers,” Bhattarai said.
