NCP to conduct nationwide campaign

Kathmandu, August 30

The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) will conduct a nationwide campaign to strengthen the party by expanding its support base.

Issuing an internal directive today, the NCP said it would soon conduct campaign to inform people about the priorities of the party and the government, and connect people with the government’s broader campaign for development, prosperity and  social justice.

NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said dates and roadmap for the drive would be finalised soon. NCP in its directive said it had failed to complete the unification process as planned but was committed to conclude the task soon with broad understanding.

“Although it took long time, the unification process has moved ahead on the basis of consensus and reached the final stage. We will conduct meetings of the party’s standing and central committees at the earliest,” read the directive. The party has failed to hold meetings of its standing and central committees for more than eight months.

The NCP recently concluded unification of its organisations including sister organisations, and delegation of responsibilities to central committee members. However, its 147-member politburo is yet to be formed.
