KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced to donate one-month salary for the reconstruction of Dharahara.

He made the announcement on Tuesday during a programme organised at the ground zero of Dharahara. The historical tower monument had collapsed in the April 25 earthquake, killing many people.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to discuss the reconstruction of national heritage sites in the Capital that were destroyed during the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25.

Four Deputy Prime Ministers -- Kamal Thapa, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Bhim Rawal and Top  Bahadur Rayamajhi-- and UCPN-Maoist Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also took part in the programme. The CEO of National Reconstruction Authority, Sushil Gyawali, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Earlier addressing the Parliament today, Prime Minister Oli assured that the government would start the reconstruction drive at the earliest stating that the twin earthquakes in April and May last years  had caused huge damage to the country's economy.

He said that the government has been working hard for taking the country to the path of economic prosperity and development.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had formally inaugurated the mega reconstruction campaign nearly nine months after the earthquake at a special function organised at Rani Pokhari on January 16.
