NSU poll process to start today

Kathmandu, August 13

The process of electing new leadership of Nepal Student Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress, is starting from tomorrow.

Although the 11th national general convention of NSU began on August 7, it was prolonged due to disputes over selection of representatives from 11 districts. The directive committee formed by the mother party on Tuesday resolved the disputes, but delay in publication of the name list of convention representatives continued to stall progress.

NSU sources said efforts are under way to finalise the list of convention representatives. Election Committee Coordinator Bharat Prasad Kharel said. “We will publish the final list of representatives on the NC website today. Nominations will be filed tomorrow.”

Convention representatives, however, are still in confusion although the directive committee and the election committee are resolving disputes to finalise the list, said Tej Bahadur Baniya, a convention representative from Sindhupalchowk.

The NSU general convention was inaugurated by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on August 7, but it has not been able to hold closed door session so far. The election committee has stated that the general convention will proceed with election without holding the closed-door session.
