Nepal’s sermon for MoLD: Be more active

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has directed the Ministry of Local Development (MoLD) to form all-party mechanism in all local bodies as

early as possible.

Addressing the fourth meeting of Decentralisation Implementation and Monitoring Committee (DIMC) here today, the PM said that he wanted the MoLD take necessary steps to make local bodies more efficient. The PM is the president of the DIMC. The meeting was held after a gap of eight years.

“It’s an urgent need to form all-party mechanism comprising all political parties in the Constituent Assembly, not only the seven-main parties,” he said.

Prime Minister Nepal also ruled out possibility of the election of local

body as all parties and the government were zeroing in on the constitution

writing process.

He, however, conceded the halting of development works due to lack of elected representatives in the local bodies.

At present, around 900 posts are lying vacant in the local bodies.
