Nepali Congress GC: Around 1,200 representatives yet to vote, voting hours to be extended
KATHMANDU: Only nearly 2,000 representatives have cast their votes in the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee election being held in Kathmandu as of 4 pm, on Sunday.
As around 1,200 votes are yet to cast the votes, the Election Committee is preparing to extend the voting time.
The Committee has not announced the extension formally; but it has been learned that the panel expects to complete the voting by 7 pm today.
Election Committee member Gopal Krishna Ghimire said they would begin counting of votes for the president, notwithstanding how late it would be, as the Committee was preparing to hold the run-off poll at 10 am tomorrow, if no any presidential candidate got over 50 per cent votes.
The party's election law requires that a candidate must get over 50 per cent votes to secure the top post.
Earlier, the voting was expected to conclude at 4 pm.
Hundreds of voters have queued up to select their leaders.
The Election Committee has planned to count votes for other positions only after conclusion of president's vote counting. Contenders of other positions can win the seats by garnering the highest votes, even if that is below 50 per cent of total votes.
