Nepali Congress, Maoists discuss Constitution amendment

KATHMANDU: Leaders of ruling Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre on Friday morning discussed various issues including the Constitution amendment proposal in a bid to find consensus on them.

The parties agreed to hold further discussions with various parties over the issue, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was planning to hold a round of discussions among others, Dahal's press advisor Govinda Acharya informed the RSS.

Meanwhile, it has been agreed that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba would hold a separate discussion with the Madhesi parties.

Prime Minister and CPN MC Chairman Dahal, leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara had represented the Maoist party in the meeting whereas NC President Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak were present on behalf of the NC.

PM Dahal has expedited meeting with leaders of various parties of late in a bid to ensure endorsement of the Constitution amendment bill that the government is likely to submit very soon.

The main opposition, CPN-UML, however, has been voicing against the proposal.
