Nepali Congress to write to EC about delay in general convention

A meeting of the party's Central Working Committee on Monday decided to amend the party statute in this regard and inform the Election Commission accordingly.

Nepali Congress had convened its 13th general convention in 2010 to elect the current executive body and leadership. After the completion fours of election, the party had extended the tenure of its CWC by an year.

The general convention, scheduled for September 19-22 this year, was put off taking into consideration the final stage of constitution-making.

The Article 269(4) of  Nepal's Constitution, which was promulgated yesterday, allows any political party to extend the tenure of its office-bearers by six months if the general convention could not be held within five years in special circumstances.

The CWC meeting was held at the Prime Minister's official residence this morning.
