‘NC wants polls as per new provisions’

Kathmandu, July 2

Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh today said his party wanted the local polls to be held as per the new provisions of the constitution and not under the transitional provision as announced by the government.

Addressing a programme organised in the capital to mark the 93th birth anniversary of late NC leader Girija Prasad Koirala, Singh said the NC did not fear the elections as rumoured by opponent political groups.

“The NC wants to hold the local polls by bringing related laws as per the new provisions. The party is stressing that the polls at all three levels be held at the earliest,” said Singh.

Stating that the constitution was promulgated under the NC’s leadership, Singh said only the Congress was capable of implementing the new charter.

All communist forces have adopted parliamentary democracy as wished by the Congress, proving that the NC is the main pillar of Nepal’s democracy.

Implementation of the new constitution will be the true tribute to late Koirala who led the peace process, Singh said.

NC lawmaker Rajendra Kumar KC said that the NC would lead the constitution implementation process as it successfully led all the past democratic movements.
