Nepali cop picked for high UN post
Kathmandu, May 7:
Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Singh Kathayat has been assigned as the Chief of Staff of UN Police, the highest post a Nepali cop has reached in its 15 years of service with the UN. According to the documents forwarded by the police headquarters, SSP Kathayat’s post in the UN Police System is equivalent to one of the three Deputy Police Commissioners in the UN.
It is the first time any Nepali police official has secured such a position in the UN Police System since it started its services in March, 1992. Kathayat, Chief of Staff of UN Police, and contingent commander of Nepal in East Timor, looks after personnel and logistics management, administration, professional standards and discipline offices.
